Tring Athletic 3 v 0 Edgware town Att: 103

The first half was very much 50/50, both teams scrapping to get a foothold in the game, and become settled. Neither team had any clear-cut opportunities; a few wayward shots by Tring, and slight opportunities that couldn’t be capitalised on in the final third by us. The biggest opportunity of the game came on the 36th minute when Tring were awarded a questionable penalty. However, number 9 stood up to take it, and Davies got down well to his left to keep the score at 0-0. The first half continued in the same manner, close chances, but nothing really to challenge either goalkeeper. Then on the stroke of half-time, Tring found the back of the net through their number 9, going into the break with the lead.

The second half we were much the better team, seeming to offer more of a threat up front when Ali entered the pitch; being substituted on at half-time. On the 60th minute saw our best chance of the second half; Ali playing a dangerous ball into the box, but missing everyone and there being no vital finishing touch. Tring had their opportunities in the second half, mainly on the counter. We struggled to find a telling touch for our pressure in the final third to break Tring down, which proved costly on the 77th minute, when no10 had an easy tap in at the front post. We didn’t give up, still fighting to make chances, most notably with Quadri floating a ball into the box and the ball falling nicely to Turner; but his effort was hit just wide. Tring settled the game right at the death, when they made it 3-0. Overall, the second half we deserved more, the result not doing our performance any justice.
