Disappointing: it looked as though the penalty in the first half was the only way a team was going to score and then to add salt into the wound a poor ball into the box was anticipated by an on coming player and karate kicked into the net for their second. Overall, all credit to NGU they worked hard to restrict the Wares to 1 shot on target and they took their chances when they came for them. One to forget.

NGU kick off. The first 5 minutes went Edgware’s way, just. The Wares had a couple of long range shots blocked. They were still shading possession several minutes on but NGU were getting a little more involved. Then about 20 minutes in great combination play on the left hand side ended in a solo run from Rio moving past 2, 3 players but getting pushed off the ball before he could get his shot away. Steven Benavides had a long range shot that went wide moments later. The game then seemed to even out without any real goalmouth action. NGU had a shot on target from distance but comfortably into Sam’s hands in the 35th. Then a poor pass from Mark Burgess led to an interception and counter, seconds in the ball was struck hard goal bound for Sam to pulled off a good diving save. With about 7 or 8 to go a ball was pumped up the other end for Lolu who receives, turns and shoots wide. Then moments later a soft penalty was awarded for NGU as Rio nudges the player who had his back to goal and went down as if shot. Converted 1-0. Then salt into the wound as moments laters a ball was poorly crossed, bounced near the far post for a striker to throw himself at the ball as it comes off his toe and into the net.

HT 0-2

The second half was a timid affair. The Wares started the second half. A free kick was awarded to Edgware shortly after on the edge of the NGU box. The ball hit the wall and deflected through and into the keepers hands. Early on in the half changes were made. On 49 minutes a double substitution: Scott McGleish on for Mark Burgess and Tyriq Hunte on for Tom Fisher. Tyriq makes an early contribution with a shot off target. Things may have been starting to looking up but that was just false hope. Almost immediately NGU go down the other end and Goal! 3-0. They worked their left hand side an a ball was crossed in to the far post for an incoming player. Moments later NGU have another attempt at goal but this time fortunately off target. NGU keep going and have another shot from outside the box that flies over. As the game went on though both teams struggled for any consistent possession. A few loose counter attacks but nothing much else. NGU worked hard to limit the Wares to very little getting umbers back quickly and shutting up shop. NGU counter attacked towards the end and get a shot on target but Sam held comfortably. NGU then have a final counter but shot was wide.
