With Berkhamsted needing a point to gain promotion they played with more purpose. It was oneway traffic in the first half but the Wares’ never say die attitude saw a push to turn the tables with a much better second half.
The first 15 minutes were probably the most negatively dramatic of the season. The Wares barely got going and were bombarded by an energetic and fast moving Berkhamsted. Three quick goals it seemed settled the Berkhamsted nerves. It didn’t stop there though and Darren Bonfield was called into action twice before the end of the half. Possession and territory were pretty much all Berkhamsted with the Wares managing only a couple of attempts on goal mainly through free kicks just outside the area.
HT - 0–3
A very good start to the second half for the Wares with Dan Pett making the Wares’ first attempt at goal in the first minute. The next minute in, Edgware had their first corner of the second half. Just 5 minutes in and the Wares made their first substitution as Christiano Londono made way for Mikkel James. Moments later Darren Bonfield pulled off a good reaction save to start a quick counter attack that ended in Mikkel James ploughing through the Berkhamsted defence to strike home 1-3. With tails up the Wares began a 15 minute push to try and get another goal. Several corner kicks and an attempt at goal later there was not joy for the Wares. Berhamsted then grabbed hold of some momentum but their best efforts were half chances. On 70 minutes Steven Benavides made way for Tyrone Mulholland who 8 minutes later supplied an assist for Dan Pett to swivel and shoot in the box 2-3. The game ended with Berkhamsted slowing the game down as much as possible, trying to keep possession and putting balls into corners.
