Walton were generally the better side, slightly sharper all round. Nonetheless, this was a windy day at the races. Walton chose ends and had the better of the conditions which played to their advantage. The first 2 goal were heavily wind assisted catching out the Wares defence. Walton then summarily staged somewhat of a block and counter approach but a much better performance from the Wares.

The first half saw Walton playing down hill with the wind and despite a fairly even start with 2 shots a piece, on 15 minutes Walton struck the crossbar with a shot that seemed to accelerate towards goal wind assisted from distance and comeback into the box to a waiting striker who struck home 0-1. Within minutes Walton had another long range effort to fly pass Davies into the bottom corner of the goal 0-2. A disastrous start. On 28 minutes with slightly more possession for Walton a long ball was played over the defence which might have been cleared for their right winger to run on to and slot into the back of the net 0-3. The Wares had several attempts at goal before the end of the half to no avail.

HT - 0-3

An excellent start from the Wares in the second half, Pett with 2 attempts at goal. 10 minutes in Hill was replaced by Caruthers feeding an attacking strategy. Several forays into the final third encouraged several shots from the Wares. Gbo was replaced by Koroma for a bit of pace on the right wing in the 66th minute. Walton however, took this initiative while the Edgware subs settled in. The last 15 or so minutes saw the Wares pressing with great character. Several shots later the Wares were rewarded with a goal from James muscling his way through the defence and finishing with a powerful shot to hit the back of the net from just inside the box 3-1. The Wares continued to not give up and press until the final whistle.

FT - 3-1
